Hey ya’ll enjoy the video update =D!

Randy and I on the Skagit…

Hola Everyone!

I promised you a story about one of mine and Randy’s crazy adventures. So I will start with one that sticks out the clearest in my mind.

This story is only one of the many not so bright things we did, and continued to do because we got away with it!

It was Humpy season, and the Skagit River was open, so Randy and I decided that we needed to get off the beaches and into the boat. We settled on a day and we put our plan of attack together. We headed over to the river, launched the boat, and puttered around to the spot we wanted to try. We get everything setup, and start to fish. Everything is going swimmingly at this point, its a great day! Randy was the first to get “F.O.B”, short fight later and in comes a nice little Humpy. 1 minute later while Randy is getting his gear reset, I get my first “F.O.B” of the day. Oh this is too easy, its like shooting fish in a barrel. We had been there for no more than 10 minutes and already had 2 fish in the boat. I knock out my Humpy and start to reset my gear when Randy gives a mighty heave hoe and sets the hook on his 2 fish! Holy crap on a cracker, why didn’t we do this sooner! He gets his fish in, I cast out and even before the weight hits the bottom, I have my 2nd fish on. We are loving this action! Randy gets his fish to the boat, bonks it on the head to knock it out, and starts to get his rig back in the water. I am fighting my fish to get it in, when all of a sudden a big ole boat comes screaming by us! Oh crap. The wake hits us, and we start to rock and roll, about 2 gallons of water come over and into the boat with us on each wake. We grab the coffee cans and start to bail as fast as we could. Now we have water and fish blood everywhere in the boat.

Oh did I forget to mention the boat we were in? It was a 10 ft flat bottom john boat, which was sporting an 8 hp Tohatsu engine, 6 gal gas tank full, 2 big boys we were 200+ each at the time, plus our rods and all of our substantial amount of gear. We basically had 2 – 3 inches MAX of freeboard, basically if the wind blew we got water in the boat with us! We were so over that poor boats weight limit, it could have pressed criminal charges for abuse against us and WON!

Undaunted and fearless, we continued to fish. Within 1 hour we had enough fish for our limit. Hmmmm that wont do at all, we looked at each other and both of us released the 2 fish we had just caught! Now we can continue fishing with hopes of catching a Silver or maybe even a Sturgeon. More boats came by, and we started bailing again, by now we are up to our ankles in blood, gore and water.  More fish caught and released, and for some reason the bank anglers were not overly pleased with us. They actually started casting AT us in hopes of hitting us. Neener neener neener, we are after all courteous anglers and well out of their range. We can’t help it we are catching so many fish!

Little while later, a HUGE boat came by us, holy frick this one is gonna suck! We ride out the wakes, and start bailing water again. As we are bailing both of our rods start bouncing like an over enthusiastic kid on a Pogo stick. Yep you guessed it, screw the bailing we got fish to land! We fight the fish in, release them, reset our rods and get back to bailing. Just in time too as 2 other boats come barreling toward us. Ruh Roh this is gonna be bad. Bah bring it on, we got this covered. We ride out the wakes bailing the whole time. Finally we have the situation under control, and no worse for the wear. Well that’s not exactly true, our shoes and the bottoms of our pants will never be the same.

We sat there for around 2 more hours catching and releasing fish. We finally came to the decision that we had enough fun for one day, and called it quits. We puttered back to the launch, and bailed as much water as we could out of the boat to lift it into Randy’s truck. Once situated in the truck we took out the butt plug, and out rushes a solid stream of red water. The guys next to us, looked at us like we were out of our minds and started laughing. We grinned ear to ear, thinking to ourselves, “Yep, that’s the way ya do it boys.”

Randy and I still look back at that day and shake our heads and laugh. We had a blast that day, but hind sight being 20/20, we weren’t the brightest bulb in the box that day or many days that followed =D.

I hope you enjoyed reading about our little adventure. There are more to come from our silly escapades, so keep checking back.

Until next time, “F.O.B”
